The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, has, on Friday, sensitised stakeholders on clustering models to promote efficient and effective learning in public primary schools in the State.
During the one-day advocacy and sensitisation programme, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King revealed that the purpose of the engagement was to propose, enlighten, and seek the collaboration of education stakeholders in delivering constructive, impactful and resourceful Basic Education in the State.
He explained that the existing cascade model of train-the-trainers where Headteachers are trained to train their junior teachers has now been substituted with a cluster model in line with the second pillar of Mr. Governor's T.H.E.M.E.S agenda tagged Education and Technology.
Alawiye-King said that the new clustering system is a strategy developed to enhance the capacity of teachers and education managers to improve learning at the National, Regional and Local levels of the Basic Education sector through mandatory professional development, weekly cluster-meetings, regular lessons observation, experience sharing and lesson success evaluation.
"We have moved from analogue to digital. That is, we no longer practise summative assessment. We have adopted the quality assurance model where we provide support for teachers rather than finding faults in them," he added.
He urged them to take ownership and sensitise the community on the new clustering-system to promote quality assurance in the Basic Education system.
